Boston to New York – Contiki Day 13

This morning we were all pretty sad because today was the last day of our Contiki. We all loaded up our bags on the coach and by 8am we were on the road back to New York City. The drive to New York from Boston is about 4 hours but we were going to break it up with a few stops along the way.

Fun in America

It’s now less than 6 weeks until my brother and I are off on our American/Canadian adventure and it’s time to book some of the activities we are going to do outside of Contiki.

With only 2 days in New York City prior to the start of our Contiki, we are really limited as to what we’ll be able to do – especially as our first day in New York starts at 7.00am after two 9-hour flights! Yup, we land in New York at 7.00am and we wont be wasting any time in seeing as much as we can. To get from JFK Airport to our hotel in Chelsea, we’ve pre-booked a private car with Dial 7 because it seemed easier than a taxi and we like to have a set fare. Everywhere on the web says don’t even bother with a shared shuttle in NYC so we are listening!

Photo Gallery

To finish up my posts about my trip, I thought I’d add a gallery of some of the hundreds of photos I took while on the trip. I’m no expert photography by a long shot, so these are your standard tourist point&shoot photos but I think they’ll still fire up the wanderlust.

Day 13 – Final day in NYC

Today was my last day in New York City (a few others were staying on in the city after our tour ends but I was flying out to Orlando the next day). I had joined the Contiki Optional of biking through Central Park along with Sam. Our tour manager walked us down to the meet up point (and it was a really long walk!). Once we got there, we meet up with our biking tour guide and split up into two groups and headed off. Turns out you have to be semi-fit to bike around Central Park – it’s not as flat as you’d think it would be. Of course, it didn’t help that I was starting to get sick. Central Park was really pretty though.

Day 12 – New York City

Today our tour was going to see two of the most iconic things in New York City – the Statue of Liberty and the 9/11 Memorial.

Seeing the Statue of Liberty was something that was included in our Contiki tour which is pretty cool. We caught the subway down to the ferry across to Liberty Island. Getting on to the ferry was kind of crazy – you go through security checkpoints like at the airport.. they scan your bags and you go through a metal detector. It’s quite intense!
