Boston to New York – Contiki Day 13

This morning we were all pretty sad because today was the last day of our Contiki. We all loaded up our bags on the coach and by 8am we were on the road back to New York City. The drive to New York from Boston is about 4 hours but we were going to break it up with a few stops along the way.

Today we would be driving through two new states, which was exciting (I love to add new states to my “been” map) – Rhode Island and Connecticut.  Our first stop was Providence in Rhode Island. This was literally a 20 minute toilet stop, so there was no time to see anything, which was a bit of a shame.

After Providence, it was back on the road for another hour and half until our next stop – New Haven, CT. We had over an hour stop here so that we would have time for lunch and to look around.

A few of us headed straight over to Shake Shack for a burger and fries. I had seen Shake Shack in New York but it was so busy, so I hadn’t tried it before. I have to say, the burger and fries I had from Shake Shack were the best I had had in America so far. Just looking at the picture makes me hungry for it again!

New Haven is the home of Yale University, so after I was done with lunch, I headed out to find the Yale store so that I could buy a T-Shirt to go with the one I got from Harvard. I walked around the campus (it’s pretty, but not as pretty as Harvard) but ended up getting lost and then I ran out of time to actually find the store.

After New Haven, it was back on the bus for the long stretch to New York. I think the drive was about 2 and a half ours. We used the time to pay for our Contiki Optionals and fill out our evaluation sheets.

Once we finally arrived in New York, it was time to say goodbye to everyone. It was pretty sad! Some of us had to hang around because we had ordered Contiki t-shirts but they hadn’t arrived yet. They finally arrived and it was about 5pm by the time we were ready to head out.

Matt and I had a 10am flight tomorrow, so we were staying the night out near JFK Airport at Hampton Inn & Suites, so we ordered an Uber to take us to our hotel. I didn’t take into consideration the amount of traffic there was going to be at 5pm on a weekday night (duh, I know!). We sat in so much traffic – it ended up taking us nearly 2 hours to get from Manhattan to our hotel at JFK. Luckily, the Uber only cost $65 and I had a $30 discount coupon, so the 2 hour ride only ended up costing $35, so that was awesome (I love Uber!).

We were so exhausted by the time we checked in to our hotel and hungry too. There were no food places nearby our hotel, so we ended up ordering pizza – even that took 40 minutes to be delivered to our hotel! After pizza, it was shower and bed as we had to be up early for our flight to Hawaii the next morning.
