With my next trip coming up in less than 3 months, I’ve been starting to look at the cities we are visiting and what we can do on days when we have free time. We only have such a short amount of time in each place (sometimes not even a full day) so it’s hard to know how much we’ll actually be able to see.
First up is New York, where I have been before. We only have two days in New York before our Contiki commences. We arrive at 6.30am so much of the first day will be taken up with checking in to our hotel (Fairfield Inn & Suites Manhattan/Chelsea) and catching up on sleep after around 18 hours of travelling.
I anticipate an early night on this day, after showing my brother Times Square and doing a spot of shopping for things like a Sim Card. The following full day will be our real day to see some of New York. Whilst I have been to New York before, there are a few things I didn’t do that I want to see this time – namely, the 9/11 Memorial Museum and walking the Brooklyn Bridge. The new One World observation deck is now open so this is another thing we want to see. We’ve decided that the easiest way to get around and see these is by utilising the BigBus hop on/hop off bus. We’ll see how much we can fit in, but I think this will pretty much take up most of our day.
Here are some highlights that we’ll have the chance to experience on our Contiki that I’m especially looking forward to:
- Illuminations tour of Washington DC
- Smithsonian Museum of Natural History – Washington DC
- Duquesne Incline – Pittsburgh
- Maid of the Mist – Niagra Falls
- Helicopter Tour – Niagra Falls
- CN Tower – Toronto
- Eaton Centre – Toronto
- Casa Loma – Toronto (dependent on time)
- 1000 Islands – Canada
- Ottawa Parliament – Ottawa
- Old Town – Montreal
- Biodome – Montreal
- Ben & Jerry’s Factory – Vermont
- Freedom Trail – Boston
Finally, we have our short stopover in Hawaii. The two things I really want to do while here is Parasailing (if I can overcome my fear of heights!) and a Grand Circle Island Tour of the whole island of Oahu.
Looking at all this stuff makes me so excited! Cannot wait to go!
